Pixar Review: 'Legend of Mor'du'

Hi everybody! Time to review another Pixar short film! This time we are going to be looking at the direct-to-video short, Legend of Mor'du, released in 2012.

The Story:
This short film's goal is to explain the backstory of Mor'du, the villain of Brave and one of Pixar's most mysterious characters. We did get some of it in the movie, but this was a chance to learn more about him and maybe more about the witch.

This would have been a great short... but they didn't really use this potential that much. It mostly stuff that normal people could figure out with the info given in the movie, except with visuals. It makes it seem like it is more for little kids who didn't get it, and not people who wanted to see more. So, as you can see, I didn't really like the short. But does it at least look good?

The Animation:
One of the big selling points of the short is to visually show the story of Mor'du, one of the big sayings in movies is "show, don't tell" after all. But the thing is that the backstory was already greatly told in the movie! It was one of the best things about that movie! But, does it look good? Kind of. It is nicely drawn, but it is nothing super amazing.

There are some really nicely drawn shots, but there really isn't any animation. They don't move that much, so it isn't really that interesting that much. So, the animation, isn't terrible but it is pretty boring for the most part.

The Pixar Legacy:
At this point, you shouldn't be surprised that this isn't really deserving of a legacy in Pixar history. Some fans of Pixar probably will remember the short and will watch it in the future, thanks to it being on the Brave Blu-ray. But no one will be remembering it like anything spectacular or even that good. So what do I rate it?

Final Thoughts:
It is pretty obvious that I don't really like this short that much. If you do like it, that's totally fine. But, in my personal opinion, it is a pretty pointless short which is a okay extra at best.

My Rating: 6/10
