Post 146: New "Toy Story That Time Forgot" Commercial

Hi everybody! A topic from Pixar isn't that getting talked about a lot is "Toy Story That Time Forgot". The special will air on ABC this holiday season and will be Pixar's first Christmas special. Anyways, a commercial has been released.

"At this year's San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), Pixar held a Toy Story That Time Forgot panel moderated by famed compose, Michael Giacchino. Guests of the panel were treated to background storyboards, still images and even saw a sneak peek of the short along with images of the Battlesaur toys (which will be released this holiday season). Although the half-hour television special isn't premiering until December 2, 2014, Sky (A UK-based media company which also released a Toy Story of TERROR! clip last year) has just released a hilarious commercial allowing us to get a glimpse at the "dangerously delusional" band of Battlesaurs. Be sure to watch the commercial which is uploaded on our PixarPost YouTube channel.

The hilarious fifty-one second commercial was directed by veteran television-spot and Partysaurus Rex director, Mark Walsh and we have to say that the character development by Steve Purcell-and-team is just brilliant - the Battlesaurs draw you in right away and make you want to see more. Speaking of Steve Purcell, not only is he the director of the half-hour special, but he also voices the hilarious and somewhat goofy, Cleric (pictured below).

Great wide shot showing the spanning Raptorian Guards
The scientific and quirky, Ray-Gon

We've already watched the commercial six times and the humor comes across in more depth each viewing. We particularly love the moments when the Cleric utters, "Alchemy", when Ray-Gon blows the dust off of the network cable and our favorite moment is when Buzz and Woody are tied (with a pipe cleaner) to a spit over an battery-operated candle - genius! Additionally, since we know that the special takes place during a post-Chirstmas playdate, it was great to see the little details of the wrapping paper still on one of the Battlesaur boxes.

View of the Battlesaur packaging & playset - who wouldn't want to own this?
[Also do you see the "Toy Story" toy plane and a luxo lamp?]

The initial plot detail for Toy Story That Time Forgot is
During a post-Christmas play date, the Toy Story gang find themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. It’s all up to Trixie, the triceratops, if the gang hopes to return to Bonnie’s room." -Pixar Post
What is your thoughts on the new commercial?

Post 145: First Look at Uku's Singing from "Lava"

Hi everyone! "Inside Out" is a weird idea and Pixar knows, so get ready for the first clip from the weird short that will play in front of it, "Lava".

"Pixar's Volcanic love story is set to hit theaters alongside Inside Out on June 19, 2015 - but today we have our first glimpse of the poignant short thanks to Yahoo! Movies. The clip, shows Uku (pronounced ooh-koo) singing a love song in hopes of finding love for himself - but how does an immovable formation of earth find love? That's the element that director, James Ford Murphy (Jim) wants to tell in a way that moves you emotionally and visually.

Check out the clip, uploaded to Pixar's YouTube channel.

You can tell from the clip above that Uku seems to be the only one who is alone - heck, even the clouds are coupled-up and seem to have arms outstretched towards each other. So, how do you make a giant volcano show his emotions when he can't easily move? The Yahoo! Movies article mentions -
To create the face of the mountain, Murphy used an amalgam of the faces of Kuahna Torres Kahele, the musician who is the voice of the mountain; Honeymooners star Jackie Gleeson, and the bulldog in the Chuck Jones animated classic Feed the Kitty, which Murphy considers perhaps his all-time favorite cartoon. “That cartoon has so much heart and so much of the humor comes from genuine emotion,” he says. “That was a major inspiration for us.”

Lava recently had it's premiere at the Hiroshima Film Festival in which famed Hawaiian singer, Kuahna Torres Kahele (voice of Uku), posted some photos from the festival on his personal Facebook page. Be sure to check out the Forum post (started by Dan the Pixar Fan) to view some additional details and more photos. In addition to the great photos, we also think we have found three additional film festivals in which the short may be shown as well (read our finding in the Lava Forum post).

Post 144: First Look at Riley and Animation From "Inside Out"

Riley from Inside Out

Hi everybody! "Inside Out" is getting closer and we still don't have a teaser (but I think they will release it in front of "Big Hero 6"), but we have just got a look at Riley, the main character/setting and the animation.
"Disney Movies Anywhere has just launched a two minute behind-the-scenes sneak peek at Pixar's highly anticipated Inside Out (bundled along with the Monsters University Summer Movies To Go video). Hitting theaters on June 19, 2015, Inside Out will take us into the mind of Riley, a 11-year-old girl who is uprooted from her midwest life to start anew in San Francisco, California. As Riley grows up and enters her teenage years, her emotions and personality change too. Although Riley is an important part of the movie, her emotions are the film's main characters: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust.

The sneak peek, introduced by Pete Docter (Director) and Jonas Rivera (Producer), gives us our first look at Riley, shows some great test animation of the emotions and also discusses the throwback animation style the team used in the movie. Rivera said, "We really wanted to push and caricature and squash and stretch and go back to some of those principles that got us loving animation". Hearing Pete and Jonas discuss the the old Hollywood style of animation really excites us - it's going to feel so fresh and nostalgic at the same time." -Pixar Post

What do you think of Riley? And when should we get a teaser?

"LEGO builder Angus MacLane keeps busy. He works as an animator for Pixar and seems to have multiple LEGO projects in progress at any given time. MacLane came up with the amusing LEGO Superhero Couch Potato series we featured in June, and he’s recently received support on LEGO Ideas for a model of Wall-E from the film of the same name. MacLane worked as lead animator on the movie and spent three years developing the brick form of the sweet robot.
14507426518_6acb4deace_k14690948831_723f0f7a63_kMacLane told The Brothers Brick he started on Wall-E about the same time as the computer model of the character was being built. Since the color scheme for the film wasn’t finalized, MacClane constructed the first version of Wall-E with light gray bricks. He’s made upgrades over the years including using screen accurate colors and adding better tread. MacLane doesn’t list the piece number or height of the finished project, but it looks close to life-sized. I think it would be a fun set to build, especially if you could figure out how motorize the tread.

14671093926_a83d72fa82_k14670753406_2ac7c4f8e7_kNow that the project has 10,000 votes, it moves onto the review stage. A LEGO Review Board with designers and product managers will look at the idea and build concept models. The whole process can take several months, but there is a possibility that LEGO Wall-E could end up on store shelves." -Nerdist

Post 142: "Incredibles" Sequel Possible Date!

Hi everybody! After everyone in the world screamed and/or jumped with joy when they officially said that the long-waited "Incredibles" sequel is in the works! Now, one of the biggest questions about the project is now answered some what! WHAT IS THE DATE WHEN THE "INCREDIBLES" SEQUEL BE RELEASED?!?

"The Incredibles has been one of the most voted Disney favorites of all time, and it will soon get a sequel claimed Bob Iger (Disney CEO) at the Disney Investor’s Meeting in March 2014.

In an interview, Brad Bird (Writer/Director) of The Incredibles stated, “I have numerous elements at my disposal that I think might work well in some other [Incredibles] title, and if I can get them to click together, I would probably want to do that.”
We can be self-assured that his ideas have synergized pretty well and were already being set to motion in the upcoming installment. There are some doubts whether Bird will be directing the next installment as at the moment he is completely engrossed in the production of ‘Tomorrowland’ featuring Huge Laurie, George Clooney, Tim McGraw and Judy Geer.
The Incredible 2 News
There is no news on the Incredibles 2 official release date at the moment, but Josh Hollander from the 3D Production Team said that the movie might release sooner than anticipated due to the development in technology and some pre-owned assets which will come in use in the sequel.

The 3D Creative Summit in London last March 12 and 13, Hollander explained by saying, “We are currently working on The Incredibles, which is a lot of fun in 3D. I’m not sure The Incredibles 2 is not the only Disney property to have a sequel in the works. Sequels to Finding Nemo, Cars 2, and Frozen are also under development.
Pixar President Ed Catmull – in an interview with Buzz Feed last year – reassured audiences that the animation studio will also work on original stories and ideas with the release of the films Inside Out on June 9, 2015 followed by The Good Dinosaur on 25th November, 2015.
“Working with technology has been quite interesting so far as, while the film released ten years ago, the technology is even older, and it took four years to make.” Ed signed off!" -Air Herald

When do you think it will be released? 2017? 2018? 2019? 2020?

Post 141: Sneak Peeks at Sadness and Disgust!

Hi everybody! "Inside Out" is getting so close to being fully shown in cinemas! And we are also getting tons of news about the project! And now, a sneak peek at Sadness and Disgust!

Inside Out"When Pixar films are in production, the voice actors are hard at work from the outset. Often, their performances prove to be heavily influential to the final work that we see on the screen. For example, in the lead up to the release of Pete Docter’s Monsters, Inc., Billy Crystal actually had a number of lines that he came up with while in the recording room, which the creative team at Pixar loved so much, they had them put into the film. Inside Out is the next film from Docter, and he has been working on finalizing much of the voice work with the actors, including actress Mindy Kaling. Get another peek at her character after the break!

A user on the Pixar Post forum spotted a few images that Kaling shared on her Instagram [pictures] which includes another piece of promo art featuring her character Disgust. To this point, the image above was one of the few publicly released looks at any of the characters from the film, but Kaling is clearly excited enough to provide us with another piece. The new art is perhaps an even better representation of the character, one of five emotions that make up the consciousness of 11-year-old Riley." -Pixar Times

"Phyllis Smith, the voice of Sadness in Pixar's upcoming, Inside Out, recently say down with Fox News in St. Louis and briefly discussed her experience recording vocal work for the Studio. The video below highlights some of her initial struggles of figuring out how to fall into her new role of voice acting as well recording dialogue with Amy Poehler (voice of Joy). Even in moments where Phyllis is joking with the host, her voice still exudes a sullen undertone - what a perfect fit for the role of Sadness.

[To see interview go to the Pixar Post post:]

I had to laugh when Phyllis said, "I don't know is this is a good thing but usually they have about 4 or 5 sessions, I've had 7 or 8 - so it's either because I'm really good or I'm really awful".

What are your opinions so far on these characters?

Post 140: New Pixar Bouns Features Found!

Hi everybody! As you know, Pixar is putting out a Blu-ray for "Toy Story of TERROR", the Halloween special from last year, which is coming August 19th. Well, some of the bouns features have been found! Enjoy!

"Along with the Blu Ray, DVD and Digital release of Toy Story of TERROR! on August 19, you'll find an amazing array of extra features that are almost as long as the 21 minute special itself. Our official review will be coming soon, but Parade has released an exclusive clip of the behind-the-scenes look at Toy Story of TERROR!, called Team of Specialists. The entire Team of Specialists feature is 11:52 and really digs into so many of the favorite moments from the short along with a ton of humor.
Also, be prepared to laugh like crazy when viewing the vintage toy commercials that were created for Combat Carl, Old Timer (our favorite) and Transitron. UPDATED August 14 - Since we mentioned the commercials specifically, we happened to spot the Combat Carl Public Service Announcement (brought to you by the National Cough Safety Council). Hilarious!" -Pixar Post
What are your opinions on the new extras?
